All the living room furniture was pushed into a small corner area - but the actual space was twice the size - leaving too much emptiness. They had used the rug to define the space. So we worked on a new floor plan and switched the TV and sofa positions to open it all up.
|
In the back we positioned a large Antique Cabinet to show off collectables - out of the reach of the children. It also divided the living room from the dining room. Accent pillows were made to coordinate the decor. Behind the sofa we added a console table to fill the space and allow the 2 accent chairs to cozy up to it. New lampshades are also made - a beautiful lampshade can really punch up a room. The old coffee table was reused - but will be stained a dark brown for a minimal expense.

In the dining room we moved the table for a better position. Then added a brown shag rug - similar to the orange shag in the living room. Keeping them both shag repeated the continuity to the space. We then anchored the wall with a beautiful old sideboard that houses to matching lamps for ample light during dinner parties. Eventually a mirror is needed above it. Artwork is also needed to finish the space.

Since the master bedroom had a black tufted headboard, black bedskirt, and dark brown curtains - we chose to continue with the color group and design a hotel feel. A small loveseat was made, anchored with a white shaggy rug and a few other items found around the flat. Now the room is grown up, sophisticated and a multi-functional retreat.

The seafoam blue was repeated in the antique distressed sideboard, lamps and dining room chairs. So that the kids can spill on the chairs - the seats were done in synthetic leather to blend with the sofas.
|
The white and gray marble was repeated on the side table and the dining table. The living room walls were also washed in a light blue gray.

The 'before' decor is a typical rosewood Chinese version of French country. The 'after' is a causal eclectic French country - update and urban. Using the same wall treatments and window treatments that came with the lease. Everything was very golden yellow and we needed to tone it down.
At least 80% of the furniture was designed and special ordered to fit the space. A few antique pieces were found for fillers - either painted or stripped.
The Artwork is from Dafen Art Village in Shenzhen.
The rugs were wall to wall carpets that were cut and bound to designate the living room and the dining room. These have been washed on the roof top when needed.

BLUE AND WHITE IN REDHILL
|
Redhill Townhouses are extremely large. You can spend a fortune filling them, so we kept things simple. Staying with the Nantucket theme we went blues and whites w/ tans and creams.
Their original sofa was pulled over while we manufactured a very large navy sofa that seats 3 people across from the TV set. The 90" sofa was made in 2 parts and hidden by the slipcover.
Next we designed an English style desk to occupy the space behind the sofa and matched it with a Navy Tufted Chair. The chair fabric was purchased on line in the USA and sent over. Lined linen drapes (with an added texture for interest) were hung on dark wooden rods and puddled 3" on the floor. The dining room was anchored with a large Sisal looking rug which keeps the sound level down.
For the icing on the cake - LOADS of Blue and white scattered around the room.

This old dining room set was eventually replaced with a new set and china hutch in a dark brown teak to match the living room woods. Then the wall in the dining room was painted a deep red tone to anchor and cozy up the large space.

BRITISH COLONIAL @ the Manhattan Below are photos of the flat after we moved items from room to room. We eliminated the use of blue and white porcelain in the living room and moved them to the master bedroom. We found large baskets and buckets in the bedroom and moved them to the living room to display decorative blankets. Now we have identified the decor as BRITISH COLONIAL. There was little storage so we found room to bring it in large pieces and give the place a handsome warm feeling.

Items we found in the factories and at Retail stores to finish the look and provide storage. Buying direct from the factory saved money.
We added area rugs and lamps to finish the look.
Fabric was purchased on sale locally and we are taking the slipovers to Shenhzen to have the sofas upholstered.
I don't have an after photo yet because it's still a work in progress.

Bold Ralph Lauren Look @ the Bel Aire
|
The request: the sofa be orange - and she found her fabric during a visit to Shanghai. We had trouble trying to find other fabrics locally to complement and ran out of time to accomplish it on- line. The ikat feel was one of her favorites and I found this blue ethnic print locally. Now the addition of dark brown furniture with character and blue and white lamps will finish the look.

We met the first week of November and the upholstered items were delivered just before Christmas. Fabric was found in Shenzhen for a competitive price and shipped to the factory. The 2 pc. wrap around sectional makes for multi seating in a small space. The curved side chair (with matching ottoman) fits comfortably across from it.
The remaining items were found in the factories or specially designed (TV cabinet) to compliment her peach walls and achieve the local Asian Feel the client was after.

France finds its way to Redhill
|
After re-arranging the living room furniture so that the couches face each other - we found room for more storage and useful space.
The walls are very tall so with Photoshop I showed them anchored with large screens on either side of the TV - distressed and antiqued in a Verde/Gray tone.
The small alter table was purchased direct from the factory and painted a high gloss black on the bottom, leaving a dark brown stain on top. This is placed behind the sofa with a chair - for a work station when needed. The small sideboard was painted gray to match the curtains and placed between the accent chairs. Eventually a lamp can go there.
We changed out the zebra print rug for the red ethnic and used a similar rug in the dining room.
I suggested to slipcover the dining room chairs in a black and white gingham trimmed in red to enhance the french country side.
The rooms aren't large but the ceilings are extremely tall so the bold colors will anchor the space and give a cozier feel.

Urban Eclectic in Repulse Bay
|
We only had the sofa to start with and her love for the Ikat fabric which we found on line in the USA. Her slipper chairs were slip covered and the rest was designed and ordered straight from the factories. The client was so patient but I think the outcome was delightful.
We found some faux leather for the large ottoman coffee table and for the seats of the dining room chairs. Small children are in the home. Other fabric was found in Shenzhen and sent to the factory.
The addition of Fuzzy rugs, lamps and artwork will complete the space.

After reviewing her flat we took a trip to China factories and found the Wedding Cabinet, sideboard alter table, leather trunk and chairs. We came back with more ideas for the coffee table which was especially designed for the flat. Room was still needed for a grand piano - so we moved the furniture around to accommodate the placement of it.

MID LEVELS 3 HOUR REDESIGN

Ok - I'm kicking myself again. I didn't take a 'before' photo. These are 'after'. The piano and desk were on either side of the sofa and the chair was closer to the dining room. The bookcase was located in the dining room and filled with all the books while another housed only a few items. We separated the books and arranged them aesthetically. We moved the piano to a far wall by another window where only a lonely chair was stored. The dining table was centered in the room leaving more room for chairs around it. Four people crowded themselves on the sofa for TV watching and now we have a chair so they spread out. We also moved the sofa away from the window to add more room and position the rug for it.
I think the final look is very cozy and makes for a better flow for living and entertaining. I've added some ideas with Photoshop - more lamps, curtains and artwork to finish the place.
